Noel is a young progressive professional nurse with a vast amount of experience in the Intellectual Disability Mental Health field. His professional career encompasses a variety of services. He commenced his career as a staff nurse in the Louth/Meath Mental Health Service and shortly afterwards moved to St. Mary's, Drumcar part of the St. John of God Services following which he worked in Rehab care Group Midlands Autism services working as a team leader. He is currently employed in the Aras Attracta Intellectual Disability Services and lives in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon.
In his service he has contributed to the development of the practice development unit, which was the first of its kind in the Intellectual Disability Services in Ireland. He was also responsible for the development of a person centred assessment and care plan model. Both of these initiatives required high level collaboration and team working with all stake holders which was of ultimate benefit for the service users.
Having qualified as a nurse in 2004 he continued his educational pursuits in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland completing a degree in Nursing Science in 2005 after which he completed a post graduate diploma in Nursing Practice Mental Health of those with Intellectual Disability/Autism in 2007.
He is an active member of Inclusion Ireland and also campaigned and fundraised for the provision of defibrillators in his local area in collaboration with the Irish Heart Foundation. He also fund-raises for Mayo Autism action.
He is passionate about his profession and the continuing development of nurse education. He believes that the nursing profession is a major contributor and vital to the health and welfare of the Irish public.
