CAMPAIGN OF OPPOSITION TO NMBI FEE INCREASE
Dear Member
Further to our ongoing campaign of opposition, to the increase in retention fee being sought be NMBI, we wish to advise you of the following:
1. In recent days some members have indicated they have encountered difficulties with regard to making a credit transfer, of €100, to the NMBI bank account.
• We have checked this out and have been assured this NMBI account is open. Please ensure all bank details are correct (account numbers etc.).
• Alternatively, if you encounter difficulties, we are advising members to pay the €100, through cheque/postal order, keeping a record of same.
• Whichever way you pay the €100 please record your name and current PIN number on all documentation to ensure the payment is credited correctly.
2. It is our understanding that a special meeting of the Board of the NMBI has been convened, for next Thursday, 15 th January 2015, to further consider the matter.
We will advise you of any developments subsequent to this meeting.
3. The badges, indicating payment of €100 and that the person remains on the register have now arrived. Our three unions are currently distributing them, to all workplaces, and they should be available from the early days of next week.
• We would encourage all members, who have paid the €100, to wear the badge thereby indicating, in a visible fashion, their participation in, and support of, this national campaign.
4. We would again remind all members that the HSE has indicated that proof of registration is not required until 30 th April 2015. We would ask members, in private sector employments, to contact their respective union if any earlier date, of proof of registration, is being sought. This will allow us communicate, with that employer, advising them of the HSE position on this issue which we will ask them to follow.
5. Finally, as we have said before, members are now asked to make a payment of €100, when their personal circumstance allows. This confirms our collective support for a regulatory body that protects the public interest by ensuring nurses/midwives have an environment within which they can practice safety.
