PSYCHIATRIC NURSES ASSOCIATION of Ireland

Tuesday 13th October 2026. The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) will commence strike action across the mental health and intellectual disability services tomorrow, Wednesday14th 0ctober. The strike action will commence at the start of the day shift until 17.00hours.

Speaking ahead of the start of day of strike action, PNA General Secretary, Peter Hughes said the union has been left with no option but to take strike action in the absence of meaningful engagement by the government on a replacement for the public service pay agreement 2024-2026, which expired in June.

"In the face of a cost-of-living crisis driven by spiralling prices of everything from fuel to home heating, everyday groceries and accommodation, PNA members do not have the luxury of waiting for the government to come forward with meaningful proposals on public sector pay.  We need to see that the government understands the seriousness of the cost-of-living crisis and appreciates the need for urgent and meaningful engagement.”
